Marisol Centeno is a textile designer from Mexico City. In 2012, she founded Bi Yuu with the vision of creating a brand where work is conceived through collaborative processes with specific artisan communities, fostering coexistence, diversity, and dialogue.
In addition to Bi Yuu, in 2016, she founded Estudio Marisol, intending to expand her research and creativity as a textile designer, merging artisanal and industrial processes. In 2017, she was awarded the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) for developing the installation of spaces.
Centeno has collaborated with national and international companies such as Ikea (Sweden), Cartier (France), Nike (Mx), H&M (Mx), and Pinterest (USA), developing concepts, installations, and products. She has also worked with various relevant architecture studios such as Legorreta Arquitectos, Tatiana Bilbao, Gensler, and Johnston Marklee.
In 2019, the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo, MUAC, in Mexico City, selected four rugs for its Contemporary Mexican Design collection, curated by Ana Elena Mallet.
Also, she was commissioned to create the piece “C22H20O13,” a special edition for the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York. The research and manufacturing process was carried out with the guidance of curator Christina de León.
Centeno has had the privilege of showing her work in spaces such as the Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo, Museo Franz Mayer, Museo Amparo Puebla, Centro Nacional de las Artes Ciudad de México, Centro de las Artes San Agustín, Oaxaca, Museo de las Américas in Denver, and at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, and Fairs such as Zona Maco México Contemporary Art. She has participated in round tables in museums such as LACMA and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Currently, she collaborates with the IKEA global design team to develop the first international collection headed by Latin American designers. Centeno is preparing her next solo exhibition, “Hilando Rituales,” at Museo Franz Mayer of Mexico City.
